Pennan Village

The cottage itself is set back from the road in the beautiful coastal village of Pennan. The house itself would have once been used as a fisherman's cottage and still retains many original features including the wood linings and stencilling. In its own right it is a beautiful and tranquil village which once had a thriving fishing industry as well as a lucrative sideline in smuggling.

The picturesque historic village of Pennan lies north west of Aberdeen, nestled below the cliffs by the sea on the Moray Coast between Banff and Fraserburgh. It's unique setting between cliff and sea only leaves enough space for a single row of houses and the road. Nowadays the village offers a perfect retreat in which to relax for a few days and take part in some of the many local activities and pursuits.

It first rose to fame thanks to its role as Ferness, one of the locations for Bill Forsyth's film Local Hero in 1982. The film told the story of the canny villagers and how they outwitted executives from the global oil company wishing to develop the beach for an oil refinery.
